    Hi Everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself as I begin my new appointment as Senior Team Leader - Club Development and Health. It's been a busy first week in this new role, and I'd love to share a bit about my journey and aspirations with you.

The majority of my professional career has been centered around health, sports, and recreation. For the last 10 or so years I have worked as the Sports and Programs Team Leader at Kwinana Recquatic which involved running the social sports competitions at the Centre, co-ordinating junior programs along with managing stadium operations.

A bit of a personal background about me is that I was raised in Kwinana and have spent most of my life as a Kwinana resident! I have two teenage children who are actively involved in sports, so am familiar with the challenges that come with running a sporting club.

I wanted to say a big thank you to Chantel Harmer for stepping into the role for the last few weeks and for showing me the ropes on my first week. Thanks Chantel!

I will be at the next Skills Boosting Workshop on Wednesday 9 August at The Wellard Tavern. The topic for August is Collaboration and Conflict Resolution. We still have limited places available, so if you haven’t yet, you can register here. I hope to see you all there!

I am so excited to take on this new role and work alongside the local clubs and organisations in assisting them to thrive in the community. I am always open to ideas and feedback and welcome you to contact me at any time! My best contact details are via clubs@kwinana.wa.gov.au or 9439 0283.

National Volunteer Week 2023 (NVW2023) is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers. From Monday 15 to Sunday 21 May 2023, we will celebrate, thank and recognise the significant contribution the 3 million sport volunteers make across Australia.

The theme for NVW2023 is The Change Makers, representing a celebration of our power to drive change and ensure volunteering is inclusive of all members of the Australian community.

The ASC will be showcasing the incredible people who volunteer in sport and the vital roles they play in delivering sport programs across Australia.

We are asking all Australians (through the promotional tagline) to give: “3 cheers for volunteers!”

It is with sadness but an immense amount of gratitude that I announce that I am leaving the position of Community Development Officer (Recreation & Health) for a promotion to the Community Facilities Planning Team. This means that I will leave my role in being the first-point of contact/liaison between clubs and council, and we will re-hire for an experienced club development officer to fill this position. We hope to hire someone by the time Winter season commences.

My new role sees me lead the Bookings Team, Kwinana Volunteer Centre, the Creches and the Loop Trail officer. I will be heavily involved in the planning, consultation and design of the City's new public open spaces and hirable facilities. Kwinana sports clubs will be at an advantage, with someone of my club development background stepping into an influential role that will help shape our new facilities for years to come. Ensuring ALL our regular hirers and community members have facilities that are fit for purpose, well utilised, accessible and welcoming is my top priority!

This is not a goodbye, but more of a see you soon - I can't wait to watch your clubs grow and to help design facilities that meet those growing needs in future!

    - Jessie
