Local Emergency Management Committee

The City of Kwinana is seeking Expressions of Interest from local community members to be appointed to the City’s Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) for a two-year term expiring May 2026.
The City of Kwinana has established a Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) under Section 38(1) of the Emergency Management Act 2005 to oversee, plan and test local emergency management arrangements. The purpose of the LEMC is to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place at a local level to address emergency or disaster events by using the Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery policy approach.
The LEMC is not an operational committee but a working group, which includes representatives from agencies, organisations and community that are relevant to the identified risks and emergency management arrangements for the area.
LEMC ROLE:
The LEMC performs a vital role in assisting the City of Kwinana to become aware of and prepared for major emergencies by:
Developing, enhancing, and testing preparedness planning from a multi-agency perspective, providing a forum for local knowledge of hazards, demographic and geographic issues.
Providing advice to key stakeholders developing localised hazard plans.
Providing a multi-agency forum to analyse and treat local risk
Providing a forum for multi-agency stakeholders to share issues and learnings from exercises and incidents, to ensure continuous improvement.
The LEMC meets quarterly, or as required minimum of four (4) meetings per annum.
Nominations are being sought for 3 community representatives who are residents in the City of Kwinana.
Required Attributes:
Must be a resident of the City of Kwinana.
Desirable Attributes:
An interest in the current and future needs of the City of Kwinana community.
Well-connected within the City of Kwinana to be able to draw attention to issues within the community relating to Local Emergency Management Arrangements.
Advocate for community issues regarding emergency prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
An interest in and understanding of Local Government processes.
Be available to meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every 3rd month (March, June, September, December) during business hours, to attend in person meetings.
