The City of Kwinana is currently reviewing the Mobile Food Vendors (Food Trucks) Policy. The updated Policy will guide the location, operation, and regulation of the mobile food vendors and temporary food stalls trading activities in the City of Kwinana. The Policy is administered as part of the trading permits process under the City's Activities in Thoroughfares and Trading and Public Places Local Law 2011.
The objectives of this Policy are to:
Increase the enjoyment and activation of public spaces within the City;
Provide a choice and diversity of local food options;
Provide opportunities for the development and growth of businesses;
Increase a sense of place and connection; and
Ensure that the trading activities of mobile food vendors complement other local businesses and do not compromise the amenity of surrounding areas.
The City is seeking to manage the trading locations and operational requirements of mobile food businesses within a set of guidelines to enable flexibility and consistency. This will allow new locations to be considered regularly without the lengthy process of Council adoption.
The updated Policy will include a set of criteria for determining the trading locations to ensure that mobile food businesses do not unreasonably compromise the amenity of the surrounding residents, negatively impact fixed businesses or pose an unmitigated risk to the safety of the community.
The City is now seeking feedback from mobile food vendors and local fixed businesses on the draft Mobile Food Vendors Policy. We would also like to know your thoughts about the existing and proposed designated trading locations.
Written submissions on the Policy may be lodged by completing the questionnaire below.
