Fiona Harris Pavilion has been home to the Kwinana Cricket Club, Kwinana Knights Junior Football Club and Kwinana Hockey Club for over a decade. All three clubs have been located in Kwinana for many more years than the building and current complex has stood. Each club has their own strong history, memories of the past, and vision for the future at Gilmore Oval and Orelia Ovals.
Recently the Kwinana Cricket Club have been successful in receiving a grant from Roger Cook MLA to construct two 10 meter high lighting poles to light up the two cricket nets located on the north side of Orelia Oval. The City of Kwinana is also contributing funding to this project. Constructing additional lighting at Orelia Oval will not cause any nuisance or glare to neighboring residents and these lights will only be in operation during the cricket season (summer months) when required for cricket training.
The Kwinana Cricket Club are very excited about this project and have employed local supplier COTEK Electrical Services to complete the project. The completion of this project will mean the Kwinana Cricket Club and community members that may wish to use the nets, will now have access to safer cricket training facilities in the evenings.
The project requires the removal of the small basketball pad that is located one meter from the Cricket nets. The City have identified this pad removal as a key element for the Cricket net lighting project to progress forward. The City are interested in hearing from local residents about their use of the existing basketball pad. Community Members completed a survey during May & June 2023 with the purpose of allowing local Orelia residents to provide their thoughts on the impact of removing the ring.

COTEK Electrical commenced installing light towers. Having the two nets lit enables the Kwinana Cricket Club and Community user groups to safely train under lights no matter the weather or season. The City of Kwinana know that supporting sport and recreation projects such as these, builds stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities.

Thank you very much to those local Orelia residents who contributed to the City's survey about usage of the Orelia Oval Basketball Pad. All perspectives and feedback was taken into account, and the decision has been made to proceed with the removal of the basketball pad and the installation of the cricket net lighting. The main reasoning for this decision was due to limited use and functionality of the basketball pad, the close proximity to the cricket nets which is a safety concern, and the close proximity of other larger basketball and netball courts.
