Round Up - Information & Networking Night - 26 August - Club Culture

On Monday 26 August, Gary Collins from JGC Group facilitated our Information and Networking Night with the topic being Club Culture. Thank you to all the club representatives that attended on the evening.

It was a great presentation with lots of discussion from participants and some thought-provoking activities that made us think about club culture and what differentiates your club from others that would make people want to join, and more importantly, stay.

Key points discussed on the night include:

  • Basic elements needed for the operation of a club (eg constitution, members, volunteers, and facilities) vs the extra things that will make a club better (eg sense of community, setting values, and good leadership)
  • What is club culture and how to create the right culture
  • Making your club a destination of choice and how reputation and image impact this
  • Development of a contribution culture and contributing an expectation
  • Effective communication
  • How to measure your success

My key takeaways from the night were:

  • Make it an expectation at your Club that you are expected to contribute if you are part of the Club.
  • Shifting the volunteer aspect to "contribution culture" - everybody gets a job
  • Club culture is about the "feeling" at the Club

I'd love to hear your thoughts about the evening if you attended this workshop. If you have any feedback on what you would like to see included in the lineup of workshops for 2025, please reach out to clubs@kwinana.wa.gov.au and let me know!
