The City of Kwinana is currently reviewing its Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) the purpose of the DAIP is to ensure that all people, including people with disabilities, are welcomed and included in the City of Kwinana and have equitable access to buildings, information, public consultations, complaints processes, services and employment.
Our Commitment.
The City of Kwinana adopted its first Disability Service Plan in 1995. Since then we have delivered many improvements to help ensure all people have access to, and are included in, the City’s services, facilities, and events.
The City recognises the social model of disability. We are committed to investigating ways to remove barriers to access and inclusion that may restrict a person’s abilities. The City is committed to actively promoting environments and services in which all people are valued and have the choices to live their best lives.
What is it?
The development of the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) is guided by The Western Australian Disability Services Act 1993 (Amended 2004). The Act requires all Local Governments to developand implement a(DAIP).This helps ensure that people withdisability have equal access to facilities, services, and employment opportunities.
Other legislation underpinning access and inclusion includes The Western Australian Equal Opportunity Act 1984 and The Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). Both of these ensure that discrimination on the basis of a person’s disability is unlawful.
This plan will outline the City’s key strategies to address each of the ‘outcome’ areas under the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan:
People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to access the services of, and any events organised by the City of Kwinana.
