Engagement

The car park at the Pace Road Shops (Green Barista side) is undergoing an upgrade and we want your feedback on the draft design options that the City has prepared. Past community and business engagement has been drawn upon to inform the 3 draft design concepts. The design concepts have incorporated the things that you had told us were important;

  • the trees
  • the connections from the shops to the green
  • more public space for events
  • alfresco dining, and
  • the need to be pedestrian/family friendly

The carpark upgrade will provide much needed protection for the trees

This consultation has now closed and results are below:

A short survey asked people to rank the design concept options and leave comments. A total of 147 people completed the survey. Nearly 50% of the respondents were from Medina and were made up of:

  • Business owners - 5
  • Shop managers - 2
  • Shop workers - 2
  • People who shopped or used the services - 127

Survey results showed the preferred design to be Option C, 48% of respondents (70 people) ranked this as their first choice. Based on respondents’ comments, Option C has now been amended with the ACROD bays positioned in front of the shops and the loop back reinstated. Option C – updated version below, is the recommended design for the Medina Pace Road Carpark Upgrade. Option C was endorsed at the November 2022 Council Meeting.

Benefits of this design include:

  • Protection and added longevity of the trees
  • Improved pedestrian access and connections from the shops to the Green
  • Increased public space for events
  • Increased alfresco dining, and public seating
  • Opportunity for nature play and linger nodes
  • Making the area pedestrian/family friendly
