The workshop was facilitated by Sarah, owner and founder of local business Online Social Butterfly. Sarah has over 15 years of experience in corporate marketing and communications.
The session covered:- tips on how to increase engagement on social media posts using tools such as creating and using a "hashtag" for your Club #KwinanaClubs and getting Club members to share posts
- when is the best time to post (anytime!) and
- can you post too much (short answer...no!)
- how to use Canva to create social media posts
- using Canva to create a style guide template

This is a great opportunity for Clubs to apply for funding up to $5000 which can be used towards capacity building and community building projects such as:
- Local group management
- Art projects
- Workshops and training courses
Organisations can also apply for funding for minor equipment such as sporting equipment, gardening tools, furniture or trailers.
There is a limit of one successful application per organisation per 12 month period.
All applications are considered through a grants assessment and approval process undertaken by a Panel of 4 (four) representatives from the City of Kwinana and Kwinana Community Chest. Further information can be found here.

The LYRiK Scholarship program offers twelve $1000 Scholarships to young people aged 15 – 24 years who live, work, or go to school in Kwinana, have an employment or education goal they want to achieve and would benefit from mentoring. Recipients will attend four fortnightly mentoring sessions in May/June at the Zone Youth Space and can either be matched with a suitable mentor or apply with an existing mentor. The mentoring sessions will allow recipients to develop financial, budgeting and goal setting skills tailored to suit their needs and learn more about their field of interest from a mentor working in that area. The program will offer Scholarships each under six different categories:
- Sports, Fitness and Health – For occupations such as personal trainer, nurse, dietician, physiotherapist, coach, sports instructor or doctor.
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Sustainability – For occupations such as engineer, maths teacher, environmental consultant, software designer or lab technician.
- Community Services and Defence - For occupations such as youth worker, community development officer, army officer, navy officer, counsellor, police officer or fire fighter
- Hospitality and Retail - For occupations such as customer service officer, retail assistant, barista, store manager or chef.
- Arts and Culture - For occupations such as film maker, painter, tourism operator, cultural consultant, photographer, dancer or heritage worker.
- Trades and Business - For occupations such as lawyer, plumber, electrician, beautician, cabinet maker or hairdresser.
For the LYRiK Awards, a young person or group of young people can be nominated for one of six categories in two age groups, 10 – 17 years and 18 – 24 years. Every Award winner will receive a $250 cash prize and an invitation to attend a Leadership Day in July. All nominees will be eligible for the Personal Development Award and the LYRiK Young Person of the Year Award which are chosen by the assessment panel and come with a $250 and $500 cash prize respectively.
- Achievement in Career or Education Progression Award - This Award recognises a young person/s who is striving towards, and taking the initiative in, developing skills and knowledge in their chosen career and/or education pathway. Examples may include acquiring voluntary accreditation and training certificates, excellence in the workplace and volunteer career experience such as a Barista Training Program.
- Community Inspiration Award - This Award recognises a young person/s who positively influences others by igniting and driving community change. Examples may include taking the initiative to address community gaps, overcoming challenging personal circumstances in their day-to-day life or starting a social movement or community group.
- Leadership Award - This Award recognises a young person/s who displays strong leadership and positively impacts the local community. Examples may include active participation on a school council or community group, volunteering in the community, planning a youth event or bringing out the best in others.
- Respect for Land & Water Award - This Award recognises a young person/s who displays commitment in addressing environmental and/or cultural matters. This may include conducting regular beach clean ups, participating in green teams in schools or volunteering in a Bushcare or Aboriginal Rangers program.
- Social Justice Advocate Award - This Award recognises a young person/s who advocates for social change in the Kwinana community. Examples may include organising an awareness/advocacy campaign, engagement with social justice groups/organisations or being a voice for marginalised members of our community.
- Sport and Recreation Achievement Award - This Award recognises a young person/s who has excelled in their chosen sport or recreation as a player, an official or, as a volunteer. Examples may include volunteering as a coach or referee, mentoring younger players or being selected at a representative level.

The topic for the night is "Attracting Time and Talent" and will be facilitated by Inclusion Solutions. The workshop encourages participants to view volunteering and paid roles through an inclusive lens, providing an interactive session that equips attendees with practical tools. It focuses on empowering clubs and groups with effective communication techniques to support people with disabilities confidently. So come and learn how to attract and engage knowledgeable, skillful, and passionate individuals with diverse abilities to contribute to your club or group.

He sent an e-mail to several Clubs in mid-December, however has had a very low response rate so he has asked that I forward the invite to all our local sporting clubs.
This will be the second year the challenge has been held, with the Tennis Club being the inaugural winner!
The details of the event are:
Date: Sunday 4 February 2024
Time: 9:45am registration for a 10am start
Location: Kwinana Bowls Club
Cost: $40 per team (teams need to be a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6)
For the $40 teams will get two games of lawn bowls (12 ends for each team – one in the morning and one after lunch), lunch, and afternoon tea. A cash bar will also be available.
As there will be Clubs playing their own sport on the day and may not be able to nominate a side with playing members, social members can play to represent your Club. Clubs can nominate more than one team and are asked to wear their club shirts on the day. Clubs outside of Kwinana are ineligible to participate.
Winners on the day will be awarded there being a perpetual trophy (sponsored by Roger Cook) awarded to the winning team, along with a smaller trophy that can be taken back to your clubrooms to keep. Will the Tennis Club come out on top for the second year running?
Please note that there will need to be a minimum for 6 teams for the event to go ahead, with only 2 clubs registering their interest to date.
This will be sure to be a fun and social day out, and what could be better than to take out bragging rights as the champions of the City?

Information and Networking Nights
Join us at our regular Information and Networking Nights. Volunteers make an incredible contribution to our clubs and community groups in Kwinana and these workshops will provide you with information, guidance, and support regarding relevant topics. This is also an opportunity to network with other clubs in the area over light refreshments at a local venue.
